Used Exhaust Systems

Used Exhaust Systems The exhaust system on your car or truck serves two functions. It reduces the pollution created by the engine and muffles engine noise. The complete system is made up of many parts. We provide convenient online shopping for all your auto part needs including a full array of exhaust repair pieces. Enter the name of the exhaust system parts you need into our locator bar and we will do the work for you. Manifold The exhaust manifold on your vehicle is attached to the engine. The manifold directs the spent fuel away from the engine and sends it through one or two pipes to the catalytic converter. Catalytic converter Catalytic converters change harmful elements in exhaust gasses. Byproducts are converted into carbon dioxide, water vapor and nitrogen. Catalytic converters can be damaged by certain fuels or additives. They also fail as they age. Muffler The muffler on your vehicle regulates exhaust gas and reduces engine noise. When mufflers develop holes, your vehicle will be noisier and may not run as efficiently. Mufflers also provide a pressure balance for the exhaust system; holes will throw the balance off. Glasspack mufflers are sometimes used by individuals to increase the vehicle’s power while also producing a louder rumbling. Tail pipes Your vehicle will have one or two tail pipes that direct the remaining exhaust gas away from your vehicle. This prevents gases from building up inside your car or truck. Hangers hold the pipes to the body of your vehicle. The hangers often break, allowing pipes to drag on the ground. Both tail pipes and mufflers can become damaged if you only drive for very short distances every day. The catalytic converter changes some of […]

Used Exhaust Manifolds For Sale

Used Exhaust Manifolds For Sale The exhaust manifold on your vehicle draws gasses away from the engine. It is designed to collect the gas and direct it through the rest of the exhaust system. A failure in the manifold can lead to noisy operation, less efficiency and increased emissions. When it comes time for replacement, we can help you find the right used exhaust manifolds at the lowest cost. Use our search box on the top of this page to find a great selection of low cost manifolds. Basic Exhaust Manifolds Manifolds are usually manufactured from cast iron or steel. The materials used are strong but the manifold is subject to extreme temperatures. They can crack or develop rust damage over time. Gaskets can become damaged more easily. Gasket damage may not be apparent when the vehicle is hot due to expansion. Check for gasket problems when the vehicle is just warming up. Manifold Failure One of the largest concerns when it comes to exhaust manifold failure is the chance for carbon monoxide to enter the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Because this gas has no color or odor, it may not be noticeable. Leaks in the manifold will result is less back-pressure in the system. This will reduce your engine’s performance and decrease the fuel-efficiency. Over time, damage to other parts in the exhaust system may also occur. Aftermarket Vs. Used Exhaust Manifolds Aftermarket manifolds can be used as standard replacements or designed to dress up the look of your engine. These may be chrome plated, painted or coated with a ceramic finish. Ceramic finishes are also used to reduce the temperature and improve the vehicle’s performance. You may also want a tubular manifold, […]

Used Catalytic Converters for Sale

Used Catalytic Converters for Sale sidewalk flying / Foter.com / CC BY The catalytic converter is an important part in your vehicle’s exhaust system. While you may be able to repair rusty or broken exhaust pipes, a damaged converter requires replacement. We offer convenient, fast online shopping for all of your auto parts needs including catalytic converters. Enter the name of the part you need into our search bar and let us do the work for you. What your converter does Catalytic converters take harmful byproducts in your vehicle’s exhaust and convert these elements to less harmful chemicals. The dangerous byproducts are hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO). The actual process of the conversion does require an understanding of chemistry, but the results are simple. CO and HC are converted into carbon dioxide (CO2) and vaporized water (H2O). NOx is broken down into three elements, CO2, nitrogen (N2) and H2O. While many other components of the exhaust system are designed to reduce noise for example, a muffler, the catalytic converter is designed to reduce pollution. Catalytic converters were also responsible for the “rotten egg” odor that was often noticed in exhaust gas. The reduction of sulfur in fuels and improvements in converter construction has greatly reduced this problem. What can cause your converter to fail? Years ago, damage to a catalytic converter was common if leaded gasoline was used in the fuel system. With leaded gasoline no longer being readily available in the US, this reason for failure has been eliminated. Other factors included certain gasoline or oil additives, most of the damaging additives are no longer sold. The failure of modern converters now normally occurs due to age. If you use […]
